Ahead of the crucial Assembly elections, the Akali government is all set to inaugurate the entrance gate to the holy city on the GT road, partially completed Partition Museum and Heritage Road on October 24 and 25, respectively.
The district and police administration have made elaborate arrangements for the ceremony. Route for pilgrims, who come to pay obeisance at the Golden Temple, has also been changed for the next two days.
One of the two vital projects, entrance gate to the holy city while coming from Jalandhar side on the GT road will be thrown open to the public by Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal on October 24.
Later, he will inaugurate three galleries of the Partition Museum, housed in the Town Hall building, formerly office of the Municipal Corporation. It will showcase relics and photographs of the Partition period.
Junior Badal will lead representatives of media houses from Chandigarh and Delhi for a walk on the Heritage road in the evening. Heritage Road has been beautified at a cost of Rs 200 crore. It is a no-vehicle zone. In order to provide pristine look with global standards, all kinds of cables on the road have been laid underground.
Statues of Maharaja Ranjit Singh, a fountain, water animations, besides façade of buildings painted in red base colour provide uniformity and heritage look. Same size signages announcing name of shops in Punjabi and English in black colour over white base catch attention of tourists.
A commemorative statue with inscribed names of all martyrs and symbolic pictures of people from all faiths, outside Jallianwala Bagh, draws attention of visitors to the freedom struggle of the country.
Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal will lead all Cabinet ministers, MLAs, chairmen of corporations, boards and members of Sant Samaj for a walk on Heritage Road on October 25.
Meanwhile, Police Commissioner Loknath Angra said ‘Snagat’ (pilgrims), coming to pay obeisance at the Golden temple between 4 am to 9 pm, could park their vehicles at Gurdwara Burj Akali Phula Singh and certain roads inside the Sultanwind gate. He said, “Policemen and women have been deployed in large numbers on the road.”
