Burari murder: Delhi Commission for Women issues summons to DCP

The woman was stabbed multiple times allegedly by her stalker.

The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) Saturday issued summons to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central Range) Virender Singh for not furnishing the documents sought by it in connection to the murder of a 19-year-old woman in Burari last month. The woman was stabbed multiple times allegedly by her stalker.

In the summons issued by DCW chairperson Swati Maliwal, she wrote that the commission on September 29 had received a reply from the DCP, North district, stating that the copy of the FIR or complaint in the case sought by the DCW cannot be provided as it may “hamper investigation”.

“It is unfathomable that it (complaint copies) can be denied to a statutory body pursuing the case in discharge of its statutory mandate,” read the summons.

“Despite the passage of one month the information was not provided…,” said Maliwal. “…Notice must be brought to the fact that the reports and recommendations made by the Commission are held in very high stead by the judiciary and are frequently relied upon by the courts. Belittling the role of the Commission in lending support to judicial proceedings is not proper,” she wrote.
