HP Ministers slam Shanta Kumar for his statement

Shimla, Oct 22 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh Industries Minister Mukesh Agnihotri and Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Anil Sharma today strongly condemned the statement of BJP leader Shanta Kumar appearing in a section of press, wherein he has said that he was not happy with the Chief Minister for politicising the recently held 'parvaritan rally' of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In a joint statement here, Mr Agnihotri and Mr Sharma reminded Mr Kumar that Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh not only warmly received the Prime Minister on his arrival, but also remained with him throughout the inauguration ceremony of power projects and even after the rally gave the Prime Minister a warm send-off. They said that before the rally, the Chief Minister himself visited the rally site and ensured best possible arrangements for welcome of the Prime Minister. But unfortunately, the BJP turned this rally into a political function and politicised the entire event. They said that actually it was the state and its people who have grudges against the Prime Minister and the BJP that they made tall claims and gave nothing to the state. The Ministers said that it was the Prime Minister who made unwarranted and light remarks against the Chief Minister, who was one of the most respected leaders of the country. They said that it was unfortunate that the person holding highest post made such remarks from public platform against a Chief Minister, who had been in public life for over five decades. They said there was nothing new in the reference of Rs 72,000 crore grant made by the Prime Minister, as it was legitimate share of the state and the funds were awarded under the 14th Finance Commission for a period of five years, upto 2019. They said that it was strange that instead of making some announcement for the state, the Prime Minister counted the funds released by the Centre to the state, which were a routine affair in a democratic set-up and each state gets its legitimate share from the Centre for development. The Ministers said that since the state government had submitted a 12 point memorandum to the Prime Minister regarding various genuine demands of the state government, would Mr Shanta Kumar himself support and request his friends in BJP to support the state government to get the legitimate share of the state from the Centre. They said that if the BJP leaders were real benefactors of the state, they should support the state government by rising above political line to get the legitimate share of the state from the Centre. They said that the conspicuous silence of the BJP leaders on this issue has once again exposed their dubious character. Mr Agnihotri and Mr Sharma said that issuing such unsubstantial statement does not behove a person of the stature of Mr Shanta Kumar. They said that instead of issuing such statements, he should use his political influence to help the state in getting its righteous share from the Centre including providing Compensatory Grant of at least Rs 1000 crore annually for ecological services, payment of Energy Arrear Claims worth Rs 3997 crore from Punjab and Haryana, payment of Net Present Value in PMGSY.
