THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The trial of notorious thief Devinder Singh alias Bunty Chor will commence before the District Sessions Court-III here on November 1. The case pertains to the alleged burglary he committed in the residence of Venugopalan Nair at Muttada on the night of January 21, 2013. He had stolen valuables, including costly electronic gadgets as well as a luxury sports utility vehicle from the residence.
Devinder Singh is an elusive thief notorious not for the burglaries he committed, but for breaking out of even the most secure jails such as Tihar jail, successfully multiple times.

The police identified him as the accused from the surveillance camera visuals installed in the residence of Venugopalan Nair. In fact, he had removed his mask and smiled at the camera, enabling a clear image to be captured. The police shared the image with all the police departments in the nation, following which his identity was confirmed.
After six days of a hot pursuit, police nabbed him from a lodge in Pune. His arrest was recorded by Assistant Commissioner K E Baiju, who led the investigation team. Devinder Singh had been remaining in the jail as a remanded prisoner ever since. Though controversial lawyer B A Aloor took up his case and filed for a bail, the court dismissed the plea. He also underwent treatment at Government Mental Health Centre, Oolampara after he showed symptoms of metal uneasiness in the prison. Though he filed a plea to grant bail citing treatment, the court dismissed the plea and sent him for treatment as a prisoner.
