JALANDHAR: Around 1000 Unaided Educational Institutions of Punjab remained closed on the second day of ‘Punjab Bandh’ on Saturday.
Joint Action Committee (JAC) submitted memorandum to Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and all the Cabinet Ministers of Punjab in various districts.
Joint Action Committee (JAC) spokesperson Anshu Kataria while briefing the compiled report of all the districts said that if the Government won’t release 480 Crore under Post Matric Scholarship meant for SC-OBC students in next 15 days than the ongoing stir would be intensified with the involvement of Staff and Management of all the Unaided Colleges of Punjab.

JAC team of district Pathankot submitted memorandum to the Chief Minister. Federation of Self-Financed B.Ed college of Punjab president Jagjit Singh questioned “what wrong have the unaided colleges done that they are running from pillar to post to get these funds released from last 2 years which is meant for the students?”
Punjab Unaided Technical Institutions Association president Dr. J.S Dhaliwal said that many colleges had been declared Non Performing Assets (NPAs) by the banks because State Government had not paid the scholarship amount for 2015-16 year and many more would be declared NPAs if Government would further delay in the release of scholarship funds.
Ayurvedic Colleges Association representative Amarjeet Waliasaid that now Government was saying that it would reimburse the scholarship at par the lowest fee structure of government colleges, which was clearly the violation of the central scheme. “The Scheme states that the colleges will be reimbursed the paid seat fee, if such fee is decided by the state Govt. So all the unaided colleges should be reimbursed the paid seat fee to all such colleges where there is a difference of fee in government and private colleges,” he added.
