Greater Jakarta: Islamic boarding school students to get KJP

J

akarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama has promised to provide Jakarta Smart Cards (KJP), the city’s financial assistance program aimed at students from low-income families, to Jakarta students studying at Islamic boarding schools outside the city.

“Next year, we will also finance students from poor families who want to study at Islamic boarding schools outside Jakarta,” Ahok said on Friday as quoted by kompas.com.

He added that the cards would also be given to students from Jakarta who won places at state universities either in Jakarta or outside the capital.

The college students would receive funding of between Rp 18 million (US$1,386) and Rp 30 million per year.

“We will provide students studying at universities outside Jakarta with Rp 18 million a year, while those studying in Jakarta will perhaps need around Rp 30 million. We are still arranging this,” Ahok said.
