MUMBAI: A 28-year-old theft suspect allegedly escaped from the lock-up of the Nalasopara police station on Saturday morning by breaking the tin roof.
Rizwan Maniyar, a resident of Dahisar was arrested by the Palghar local crime branch at around 6 pm on Saturday in connection with a 2012 theft case registered with the Valiv police in Nalasopara (east).
He was kept in the Nalasopara police lock-up.
At around 5.30 am Maniyar broke the tin roof of the lock-up and fled. The matter came to light at around 7.20 am when cops on night duty went for a round to the lock-up.
Maniyar is an accused charged under sections 379 (theft) and 34 (common intention) of the IPC.
