Jalandhar: Punjab DGP Suresh Arora said on Friday that the Union government had sanctioned raising of two battalions of Punjab Police which would act as second line of defence after the BSF. Arora, who was here to pay tributes to police martyrs on the occasion of Police Commemoration Day, said the Punjab government had sent a proposal for raising five battalions of state police to act as second line of defence and the Centre approved two battalion as the first step.
He said the second line would ensure more strict vigil on drug trafficking or cross border terrorism.
DGP Arora said Punjab Police would be further strengthened through training with the Army also.
He also said that new posts of assistant inspector general (counter intelligence) and superintendent of police (operations) had also been created.
He said children of the martyred police personnel would be given jobs not according to the rank of the slain official but according to the qualification of the eligible kin.
