LAHORE - The 1st ZTBL National Junior Tennis Championship 2016 will begin today (Saturday) here at the Punjab Lawn Tennis Association (PLTA) courts. Addressing the press conference, ZTBL MD Sports Col (R) Khalid Rafiq, along with GM Sports Masood Anwar, Zonal Chief Lahore Salman and PLTA secretary Rashid Malik, said that 150 players from across the country had been participating in the event. “The categories included in the event are U-18, U-14, U-12, U-10 and ladies singles." Former Davis Cupper Rashid Malik lauded the cooperation of ZTBL towards the promotion of the game and said: “We will try to hold this championship in a befitting manner and also try to find out the best youngsters out of it, who will be groomed and polished for higher level tournaments. “This junior championship is followed by two international tennis events, Pakistan Open event and a number of national junior events. The purpose of holding these events is to promote the game at grassroots level,” Rashid said.
