If you talked about Lady Gaga‘s new album Joanne on Twitter this week, the pop star was probably listening.
Leading up to the album’s Friday (Oct. 21) release, the “Perfect Illusion” singer has tweeted at everyone from fans and journalists to The Chainsmokers to defend her labor of love or shut down any false speculation.
Check out nine times Lady Gaga got sassy in the name of Joanne on Twitter this week:
1. Burning The Chainsmokers.
After The Chainsmokers’ Alex Pall said in a Rolling Stone interview that lead Joanne single “Perfect Illusion” “sucks,” Gaga fired back by tweeting a link to her new song “A-YO,” writing, “maybe u guys’ll like this 1 better.”
#AYO @TheChainsmokers maybe u guys’ll like this 1 better ???——–#NowPlaying

2. Throwing Down for “Angel Down.”
The headline of New York Times critic Jon Caramanica’s Joanne review said Gaga “fishes for inspiration” on the album. But Gaga wondered “how far must anyone need to [fish] 4 inspiration” when her song “Angel Down” was inspired by the fatal shooting of Trayvon Martin.
Trending on Billboard
@joncaramanica how far must ANYONE need to –4 inspiration & write a song re: the tragic murder of Trayvon Martin as I did w/ “Angel Down”.

@joncaramanica I’ll be performing that song tonight in honor of #BlackLivesMatter as I’m honored by YOUR publication. Tune in Jon.—-#JOANNE pic.twitter.com/GQ2um9uOaq

3. Don’t Focus on the “Brutal.”
After a fan tweeted that the New York Times review of Joanne was “brutal,” Gaga reminded her Little Monster “this is OUR time to celebrate!” — and that the Times critic has been “brutal for YEARS.”
@Patrickesque don’t pay attention he has been brutal for YEARS, meaningless. Don’t let it bring you down this is OUR time to celebrate!——–

4. Mark Ronson to the Rescue.
This one has layers: First, Black Keys drummer Patrick Carney said in a Vice News Tonight video that the guitars on Gaga’s “Perfect Illusion” are “so shitty.” Then Mark Ronson — who produced much of Joanne — jumped in with an anecdote about Carney being completely wrong about his megahit “Uptown Funk!” Finally, Gaga finishes Carney off by challenging him to a “guitar death-match” with Joanne axe-men Kevin Parker and Josh Homme. Boom.
@MarkRonson @pitchfork he’s not as snarky as I would be watching him in a guitar death-match w Kevin Parker and Josh F??cking Homme

5. Don’t Stress the Singles.
Gaga released “Perfect Illusion” as the album’s lead single and mega-ballad “Million Reasons” to give fans a better taste of what was to come on Joanne, but she tells one fan to slow his roll about what’s next: “Don’t read into everything so much.”
@tobeymonster @tattooedreams don’t read into everything so much.

6. Just Say “NO.”
In response to a fan tweeting about how much they can’t wait one more week for the release of Joanne, Gaga fires back a one-word response that basically says, “Good things come to those who wait.”

7. Meditate.
Days before the release of her new album, Gaga responded to a fan who tried to classify a genre for Joanne even though they had yet to hear the full album.
@heavymetaIovers THE ALBUM IS NOT OUT YET 6 MORE DAYS MEDITATE

8. Lady Gaga Is Not Madonna.
Lady Gaga is no stranger to Madonna comparisons, but one Twitter user’s accusation that Gaga is “copying the Queen of Pop” on her song “A-YO” did not sit well with Mother Monster.
@jonnyharlot why don’t you go tell yourself a bedtime story

9. No, Sia Hasn’t Written for Gaga
If you speak the truth, Lady Gaga has your back. When a concert ticket charity tweeted that Sia has written for everyone, including Gaga, a fan quickly debunked that claim. Gaga backed up her Little Monster with a single word.
