Blake Griffin is expected to be one of the high-profile NBA players in free agency 2017 with a lot of teams expected to try and pry him away from the Los Angeles Clippers. One team that could try doing that is the Boston Celtics who are in need of a power forward to pair up with Al Horford.

Despite the trouble that Griffin went through last season, it seems that all that was not enough to strain the all-star forward’s relationship with the Los Angeles Clippers. That included the infamous altercation with the team’s former assistant equipment manager that resulted in a broken hand, ESPN reported.

That incident contributed in the misfortunes of the Los Angeles Clippers and this was where the trade rumors started to gain ground. It didn’t take long for head coach Doc Rivers to come out in the open and clear the air on their plans for Griffin.

Rivers made it clear that they intend to keep Griffin, hoping he would start and end his career with the Clippers, in a separate report from ESPN. Rivers was apparently aware of the trade rumors but knew that none of them were true.

Griffin was popularly linked to possibly moving to Boston mainly because Danny Ainge had the assets to get the deal done. The Boston Celtics stand to have one of the best frontlines in the league if Griffin were to come on board where he would tandem with Al Horford who was signed last Summer.

Along with Isaiah Thomas, the Celtics would technically have a ‘Big Three’ of their own. Right now, the scenario seems improbable though anything can change through the course of the coming season. If Griffin continues to struggle, the burly power forward could even be dealt before the NBA trade deadline in February 2017.

Hence, it all depends on how Griffin performs for the Clippers once the 2016-17 NBA season kicks off. Along with Chris Paul, the Clippers try to make another run where another fall could force some changes, including deals for Griffin and Paul.
