India: Fire at SUM hospital in Bhubaneswar, Odisha leaves 24 dead

A major fire broke out at IMS & SUM hospital, a leading private healthcare institute in Bhubaneshwar, on 17 October 2016. The fire broke out at around 7:30 PM in the dialysis ward in the second floor of the hospital. More than 30 patients were present in the ward when the fire engulfed it, police sources said. At least 24 persons were killed in the fire. As per initial reports, short-circuit was believed to have caused the fire. Union Health Minister JP Nadda said that the hospital did not followed safety norms.
