Tata Literature Live festival: Talks, performances to feast on from November 17

The festival will be held at two venues — the NCPA and Prithvi Theatre.

Over 130 writers and thinkers like John Gray, Amitav Ghosh, Simon Armitage and former finance minister, P Chidambaram will be a part of the seventh edition of the Tata Literature Live! festival from November 17-20.

The festival will be held at two venues — the NCPA and Prithvi Theatre. Those listed for this edition include Nicholas Shakespeare, literary critic and descendant of William Shakespeare; John Gray, political philosopher and author of False Dawn: The Delusions of Global Capitalism; Ramachandra Guha, Indian historian and Padma Bhushan recipient; Simon Armitage, the sardonically witty British poet, famous for the dramatisation of the Greek epic poem The Odyssey; former minister and writer, Jairam Ramesh, Girish Karnad, Keki Daruwalla, Kiran Nagarkar and Jayant Narlikar, besides Gulzar and Karan Johar.

“A literary festival in what is probably the world’s most vibrant city is sure to be hugely exciting. I very much look forward to it,” Amitav Ghosh has been quoted in a press release. He recently released a book, The Great Derangement: Climate Change and the Unthinkable, which examined the perils of ignoring climate change.

Plays, performance poetry, and storytelling with music are an integral part of the festival. There will be a theatrical experiment — White Rabbit Red Rabbit by the Iranian playwright, Nassim Soleimanpour, wherein actors and the audience discover the script together. The Hindi edition of this play will also premiere at the festival.

The festival will have workshops for adults and children featuring international writers and poets with sessions on fiction, theatre, poetry. For children, there will be a workshop by Gillian Johnson and Story’xpress called How to Draw Everything.

Festive offer

Authors will be honored with Book of the Year in fiction and non-fiction, Business Book Award, Poet Laureate Award, and Lifetime Achievement Award. This year, three additional awards will be presented: Big Little Book Awards for the author and illustrator of children’s literature, and the Sultan Padamsee Award for play writing.
