Chandigarh Group of Colleges Jhanjeri took an initiative to celebrate Diwali as eco-friendly and eco-sensitive against the use of crackers. The students appealed residents at large to shun crackers on the coming Diwali festival and save the environment against pollution. Students held rally at Phase 7 market. The act aimed at spreading awareness against the pollution caused during Diwali festival. Students emphasized on protecting the environment by minimizing the pollution by refraining from use of crackers. The message was conveyed by one and all through banners, posters along with slogans like "Say no to crackers and yes to life".

 While speaking at the moment President Rashpal Singh Dhaliwal said that Diwali has brought a light of joy but the pollution caused by the fire crackers that are burst caused damaged to the environment .He further urged residents to  give a thought to the environmental pollution and the effects of it on the living beings. According to him besides pollution firecrackers can cause hearing loss, high blood pressure, sleeping disturbances and sudden exposure to loud noise can cause temporary or permanent deafness or even result in heart attack. So Diwali should be celebrated as festival of lights & pollution free. Later , students & audience took pledge a smoke –cracker free Diwali this year & gifts were distributed to the audience.
