SMEF’s Brick School of Architecture to host zonal NASA convention
PUNE: SMEF’s Brick School of Architecture, Pune will host the Zonal NASA Convention 2016-17 from October 22-24 in the school campus. The convention would host approximately 1200 students across the state (from over 30 colleges) and over 150 architects will be attending the event. The theme for this event is, “transverse”. The National Association of Students of Architecture (NASA) India is the largest architectural student body of Indian sub-continent with more than 200 member colleges.
The main aim of NASA India is to facilitate interaction among students of architecture from all over the country and provide a knowledge sharing platform. NASA India holds several events at the zonal level and one annual convention at the national level.
The three day event will be inaugurated at the hands of Architect Hafeez Contractor from Mumbai on October 22. The second day will be dedicated to workshops conducted by eminent personalities. Workshop on Tensigrity by Architect Vinish Desai, Samanubhava by Anita Iyer Nararayan, Origami architecture by Roopika and Ar. Sampada Belvalkar to name a few. Along with workshops, there will be thematic discussions and deliberations on important issues of ‘Urban Revitalization’. Urban Revitalization projects are ways to create physical improvement for urban spaces as well as sustainable, safe and inclusive environment for everyone.
Ar. Shreya Gadepalli will speak about sustainable transportation for future cities, Ar. Pratima Joshi will share her views about housing the urban poor, Ar. Ratan Batliboi on the Marine Drive refurbishment project, Ar. Kiran Kalamdani will express thoughts on preserving the past for a better future and Ar. Nachiket Patwardhan on Mutha riverfront development. Simultaneously eminent architects, professors from around the country that will grace the event on the same day by sharing their knowledge on various topics like ‘Integrated space designing by Gurjit Singh Matharoo, ‘Housing where people and nature thrive’ by Rahul Kadri,
‘Art as an inspiration for work’ by Sunil Kulkarni, Energy efficient buildings by Poorva Keskar, Vernacular references in modern architecture by Girish Doshi, Psychological aspects of space planning by Yatin Moghe, Energy efficient building materials by Swati Vaidya, Up-cycling design by Dhara Kabaria , Ar. Neelkanth Chhaya will demonstrate how architecture needs to be socially responsible and Rajeev Mishra will talk on Housing Redevelopment.
On the third day the event will have ‘On the Spot’ competitions for the students as well as various design competitions related to Urban Design, Furniture Design, Culturals, etc. The event will also showcase exhibition of academic work of students from participating colleges. This event will be concluded by a valedictory ceremony at the hands of PMRDA Commissioner Mahesh Zagade.
