Section 144 was imposed in the New Delhi’s Jawahar Lal Nehru (JNU) college, as protesters were detained and taken to the Parliament Police station. Delhi SCB M K Meena confirmed the report while speaking to the media. The students had been protesting near the Rail BHwan in the capital. Protests have been carried out rigorously following the disappearance of a student, Najeeb Ahmad.

Ahmad is a biotechnology student of the university, has been missing for the last six days. Ahmad was reported to have been ambushed and assaulted by ABVP activists on October 14 during a mess election campaign at Mahi-Mandvi hostel. He has not been seen around the campus since the next day. Some students of the varsity told ANI that Ahmad had left the hostel without his wallet, mobile and even his footwear. This sounds strange and raises several questions.

Earlier, JNU students had gheraoed the VC and other officials for more than 20 hours in their demands for the return of Najeeb Ahmad. JNU students also demanded strict actions against the Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad. (ABVP), the student wing of the ruling BJP. The whole issue started when, Najeeb, an AISA activist, had an encounter with a few ABVP activists on Saturday. These activists were known to be holding a door-to-door campaign, for the mess elections. Najeeb had then allegedly slapped a student following which an entire group of ABVP activity beat him up. Everyone who had tried to save him up on that day, including JNUSUS President, got beaten up.
