Hiroki Shibuya will stay on as manager of Omiya Ardija next year after a solid first season back in the J. League top flight with the Squirrels, the club announced on Friday.

The 49-year old steered the team to a fifth-place finish in the first stage and a club-best 50 points so for this season with three games remaining.

Shibuya was promoted from assistant coach to manager in August 2014 after Kiyoshi Okuma was fired. He steered the club to the second-division championship last year.

"The aim is to win in our remaining three league games and reach last four of the Emperor's Cup or better for the first time since 2005," Shibuya said in a club statement.
