Moeen Ali (2 for 0) bowled an excellent first over, the last of the first session on Day 2, at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong, to give England a reason to smile at the break after Bangladesh carried forward their rich form with the ball from the opening day of the Test series on Friday (October 21).

England resumed on an overnight score of 258 for 7 but managed to add just 35 runs to that before folding for 293 as Taijul Islam and Mehedi Hasan, the 18-year-old debutant who bagged a five-wicket haul on Day 1, wrapped up the tail quickly.

The visitors had the worst start possible as Chris Woakes was dismissed first ball by left-arm spinner Islam. There was a show of tentativeness from Woakes, as he prodded forward half-heartedly at a tossed up full delivery and inside-edged it to Mominul Haque at short leg.

Adil Rashid and Stuart Broad came together to deny Bangladesh a chance to gain early upperhand in the Test, but their promising stand was broken when Sabbir Rahman took a sharp catch at short cover to send Rashid packing for 26. Gareth Batty showcased his ability to hold fort by playing out 19 deliveries for his solitary run but Hasan picked up his sixth - dismissing Broad - to bring down the curtains on England's innings.

There was a huge appeal for a caught behind the stumps after a turning delivery went past Broad's bat. The umpire ruled in the batsman's favour, prompting Bangladesh to take a review - the record 10th of the innings.

The snickometer showed a tiny spike resulting in the overturning of the original call, giving Hasan his sixth wicket of the innings.

Tamim Iqbal and Imrul Kayes came close to carrying Bangladesh into the Lunch break without any damage as they defiantly played out 13 overs bowled between Broad, Rashid, Woakes and Batty. In a final throw of dice, Alastair Cook turned to Moeen, who did quite a damage.

A quicker one off the second ball of the over beat Keyes's defence to rattle the stumps and then a couple of deliveries later, extra turn and bounce helped him evoke a forward push from No. 3 batsman Mominul, resulting in an edge that was taken by Ben Stokes at gully.

The wicket came at the stroke of Lunch as Bangladesh reached 29 for 2 at the break.

Brief Scores: England 293 (Moeen Ali 68, Jonny Bairstow 52; Mehedi Hasan 6-80) lead Bangladesh 29/2 (Moeen Ali 2-0) by 264 runs
