SURAT: A state reserve police (SRP) constable was injured in leg after his colleague's gun misfired on Wednesday night at Surat airport. The SRP constable from whose gun the shot was accidentally fired was arrested for negligence on duty on Thursday. The incident occurred at departure gate of the airport. The victim was discharged after treatment at New Civil Hospital.

Charanjeet Gamit, a constable in SRP Group 11, Vaav, was injured as some particles from the floor pierced in his leg after an accidental fire from a rifle of his colleague Yogesh Popaniya while handing over the rifle after his duty ended. Popaniay has been arrested.
The firing created panic among the security staff at airport and all the concerned officials gathered at the spot. Gamit was shifted to New Civil Hospital for treatment where he was declared normal after a minor surgery.
"There were some particles in Gamit's leg and it was removed. He was discharged from hospital soon after surgery," said a doctor at NCH.
Police registered an offence of negligence against Popaniya and arrested him. "It was negligence on part of Popaniya. He should have handled the loaded gun with due care," said C D Vanzara, police inspector, Dumas police station.
