8 arrested for beating up 2 constables

The Hinjewadi police on Thursday arrested eight people, all residents of Baner, for allegedly beating up two constables from the police station with sticks on Wednesday evening at Sus Khind on Sus Road after the constable had questioned them while patrolling the area.

PUNE: The Hinjewadi police on Thursday arrested eight people, all residents of Baner, for allegedly beating up two constables from the police station with sticks on Wednesday evening at Sus Khind on Sus Road after the constable had questioned them while patrolling the area.
Constable Hanumant Dhumal lodged a complaint. Dhumal and Nitin Khopkar were patrolling the road in a police van when they spotted a youth with a girl at 7.30pm.
Both policemen knew the youth, senior police inspector Arun Waykar of Hinjewadi police station said. They told him to go away from the area.
The constables, who also knew the youth's father, said they would tell his parents about him being with a girl. "This enraged him," Waykar said. He called his friends and his father. They arrived on motorcycles, and abused and assaulted the constables with sticks. Waykar said they sustained minor injuries.
The suspects were identified as Ganapati Mukutrao Murkute (54), Vinod Dnyaneshwar Murkute (30), Laxman Balasaheb Tangade (24), Akash Tukaram Vidhate (21), Abhijit Chadrakant Thorat (20), Kaustubh Devidas Murkute (19), Abhijit Ganapati Murkute (23) and Akshay Ganapati Murkute (26).
