Rajkot: After the involvement of its own staff in exam paper leak case, Saurashtra University (SU) on Thursday banned the use of mobile phones or any other electronic devices by its employees working with the examination division. The new directive comes in force with immediate effect.
"We have issued the circular to all concerned examination officials about the new directives and asked them not to allow use of mobile and electronic devices by exam department staff.
If anyone is found with such devices, punitive actions will be taken against the culprits," SU said in a statement.
SU officials also said that they are evaluating the existing examination paper distribution system and plan to come out with an alternative that is leak proof.
"SU is also evaluating the employees who are on contract. These workers may be shifted to other departments after two years in the same department and if needed, they could be laid off," said an SU official.
SU vice chancellor Pratapsinh Chauhan, in his statement, said that examination system overhaul will be done soon. He further said that they will approach the state government to set up a high level committee to probe the exam paper leak case and take action against those found responsible.
The university's decision comes in wake of the exam paper leak scam incident that came to light early this week. Police have arrested six persons including two clerks of SU for allegedly leaking BSc exam papers.
During investigation, Rajkot police also seized 20 examination papers of the BCA course.
"These BCA examination papers were found from the house of main accused Jaydeepsinh Bhatti. However, he claimed that he did not sell it or circulate it among students," police said.
