BATHINDA: After Punjab Congress chief Capt Amarinder Singh started singing 'farm loan debt waiver forms' during his kisan yatra, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has followed suit in the state. The AAP has prepared a 'karja maafi sankalp chithi' (debt waiver resolve letter) bearing signature of party supremo Arvind Kejriwal, which will be handed over to farmers as an assurance of writing off their debt.
It has planned to approach the peasants seeking details of their debt and will start a drive to give assurance letters to farmers from Friday across the state.
AAP volunteers will put up stalls in grain markets and visit villages. Announcements will also be made through public address systems about filling up forms.
Earlier, the Congress had started a similar move as its leaders have been visiting farmers to collect their debt details. Taking it further, Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh undertook a three-day 'kisan yatra' on the theme of farm debt waiver, which culminated at Ferozepur on Wednesday.
AAP's Sangrur MP Bhagwant Mann said, "Writing off debt of farmers is sacred promise for the AAP. We had pledged this at our September 11, rally in Bagha Purana, while releasing the farmer manifesto. Working on the same, we have started approaching the farmers reeling under debt and an acknowledgement in form of a printed format pre-signed by Kejriwal will be given to assure them of our sincerity towards their cause."
Meanwhile, AAP women wing head Baljinder Kaur said their volunteers would set up stalls in grain markets to approach maximum number of farmers, who go there to sell their produce, and would also visit villages to approach all indebted farmers.
