SVIMS gets High Court notice over medical negligence

HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad High Court has issued notices to Andhra Pradesh revenue secretary, Chittoor district collector, district medical officer and superintendent of Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences (SVIMS) at Tirupati directing them to file affidavits on allegations of denial of medical care to patients citing shortage of ventilators.
The bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Ramesh Ranganathan and Justice A Shankar Narayana took note of the deplorable conditions prevailing in the hospital after going through the contents of a letter by T Naveen Kumar Reddy and M Purshotham Reddy of Chittoor district.
The letter was forwarded to them by Justice Challa Kodandaram who requested the Chief Justice to take up the matter as a public interest petition. The bench took up the case as a PIL and posted the case to November 8 for hearing.
