DNA test for doctor who 'cheated woman'

MADURAI: The Madurai bench of the Madras high court has ordered a DNA test on a Pattukottai-based doctor, Rajendran, who allegedly fathered a female child born to a woman patient.
The doctor should appear before the Government Medical College in Thanjavur for a DNA test on November 1 and the dean should file a report before the court on November 25, the court said.
Single judge of the high court bench heard a petition filed by a Muslim woman from Pattukottai.In her petition, she said that poverty forced her to marry a divorcee from the same locality. Within five years of their marriage, her husband had a skin ailment. He approached Rajendran for treatment and subsequently got cured. Due to it, the two became friends.
Meanwhile, even after five years of marriage, the petitioner and her husband had no child, for which the latter sought medical help from Rajendran. The doctor wanted the woman to come the hospital. When she did so, he tactfully had sexual intercourse with her. Thereafter, he continued an illegal relationship with her, the woman claimed.
It resulted in the petitioner's husband abandoning her. In the meantime, she gave birth to a girl child. The doctor promised to look after her and the child and told her to stay at his house as a tenant. Accordingly, she gave Rs 3 lakh to the doctor's wife and stayed there for a while.
When she insisted him to marry her, he tied the sacred thread (thali) on her in 2014. But, he started avoiding her and the child. At one point of time, the petitioner wanted to end her life. However, she decided against it for the sake of her child.
When she tried to lodge a complaint before the Pattukottai police, they refused to receive it. She then approached a private television channel which in turn allowed her to participate in one of their reality shows.
