Vin Scully returned to Dodger Stadium to fire up the crowd at NLCS Game 5

LOS ANGELES — Vin Scully didn’t stay away long. The newly retired broadcaster, fresh off spending his 67th and final season behind the microphone, returned to Dodger Stadium for Game 5 of the NLCS.

Ex-Dodgers Steve Garvey and Eric Karros threw out the ceremonial first pitches at the game, then took microphones to announce the Dodger Stadium equivalent of “play ball” — Scully’s signature call, “It’s time for Dodger Baseball.”

But to the crowd’s delight, Garvey and Karros turned the announcement over to Scully, who leaned out of a suite to greet the crowd:

Scully first broadcast Dodgers games when the club still played in Brooklyn in 1950. The team’s players rallied around him in his final season, latching on to the slogan “Win for Vin” and making time to visit his broadcast booth throughout the year.
