New Delhi:
Times Network, part of India’s largest media conglomerate
Times Group, has launched the
Make In India Summit and
Awards, which are aimed at laying out key imperatives and the framework for turning the vision of ‘Make In India’ into a reality. The launch was held on October 18 in Delhi, and was attended by commerce minister Nirmala Sitharaman, textile minister Smriti Irani and steel minister Chaudhary Birender Singh.
In her keynote address, Sitharaman said, “Make In India,
Make For India, all aim to make India a global manufacturing power.
With momentum on our side, we look to contribute at least 25% of India’s GDP through the manufacturing sector, which currently lies between 13-14%.”
Irani said, “In coming days, textile going technical and digital would surely be beneficial. We are exploring possibilities to establish direct connect between artisans and global buyers.”
Other key speakers included DIPP secretary Ramesh Abhishek, NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant, GE South Asia president & CEO Banmali Agrawala, Bharat Forge CMD Baba Kalyani and Union Bank Of India CMD Arun Tiwari.
Discussions were followed by the ‘Make In India’ award ceremony where GE India, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries, Bharat Forge, Indian Space Research Organisation, Bosch India, Patanjali Ayurved and Tata Steel were given awards for their work in taking this initiative forward.
