Ink attack on Haryana BJP MP Saini: Now, khaps want ‘attempt to murder’ charge dropped

The members of the Barah Khap said if the police did not drop Section 307 from the FIR registered against the five by Wednesday, they will make this a state-wide agitation.

Inder Mor Singh, the head of Satrol Khap, informed that members of various khap panchayats would come to Chandigarh on Friday. “We will hold a meeting and then take up the issue with the Chief Minister. The khaps are together on the issue. It was unjust to impose section 307 on the youth for throwing ink on Saini,” he said.

Tulsi Grewal, a member of Meham Khap, said the issue will further widen the divisions between Jats and non-Jats and this should be avoided.

The Akhil Bharatiya Jat Aarakshan Sangharsh Samiti has already announced that this could be an issue in the forthcoming elections in the states.

The five accused were sent in judicial custody on Wednesday. Of the five, four are students while one is a lawyer.

BJP MP Raj Kumar Saini, when contacted, said some people are accusing him of staging a drama so that his security is enhanced. “(INLD MP) Dushyant Chautala said (when) they (attackers) had no weapons, why was Section 307 added to FIR. I want to know if Section 307 is linked only to weapons. Four people tried to strangulate me. Why should a case under Section 307 not be registered? Abhay Chautala is saying I staged the attack to get Z+ security,” said Saini.

Menawhile, Haryana Finance Minister Capt Abhimanyu said, “In no civilised society there is any place for violence, whether physical or of words or of thought. I do not support anyone who indulges in violence of any form whether it is Rajkumar Saini or Deepender Singh Hooda or Abhimanyu. There should be action against any person who has done anything wrong as per the law. There is no precedent for booking someone under such a serious section similar incidents in the past. The police in its investigation should find out. If it looks inappropriate, it can be removed.”
