Kolkata-based artist Rajib Mitra opened his exhibition of water colours on canvas at KT Kala Kendra. The exhibition was inaugurated by Anil Datta, director, Tiny Kidz School. The artist has worked on a famous folk Bangla katha, namely Nakshi Katha, which tells the story of two lovers with a tragic end. His works depict poetry in an artistic format on canvas.

Mitra has painted water-colour paintings on sheets with the use of bright and folk colours. The paintings portray the rural lifestyle of Bengal with villages, landscapes, sky space and sea scapes.

“A cloth is used to paint the trees because usually this folk katha is painted on cloth by village women in Bengal. No buildings or city life is painted intentionally to show that such lok kathas or folk lores only live in the lap of nature, that is village life,” said the artist. Brajesh Jolly, director and secretary and Rajesh Raina welcomed the guests. Dr Baldev Gambhir critiqued the paintings.
