Maroon 5’s ‘Don’t Wanna Know,’ Feat. Kendrick Lamar, Debuts at No. 1 on Billboard + Twitter Top Tracks Chart
Maroon 5 enters at No. 1 on Billboard + Twitter Top Tracks with "Don't Wanna Know," featuring Kendrick Lamar, tying 5 Seconds of Summer for the most No. 1 debuts.
Maroon 5 enters at No. 1 on the Billboard + Twitter Top Tracks chart (dated Oct. 29) with “Don’t Wanna Know,” featuring Kendrick Lamar, scoring the group’s third chart-topping start (and third leader overall). Previously, the band’s “Maps” and “Sugar” both opened at No. 1 and each held the rank for one week. (The chart began in 2014.) With “Know,” Maroon 5 ties 5 Seconds of Summer for the most No. 1 starts on the list to date.
For Lamar, “Know” also marks a third trip to the summit, after his “I” led for one week in 2014 and his featured turn on Taylor Swift‘s “Bad Blood” earned three weeks in command in 2015.
Billboard + Twitter Top Tracks is a weekly ranking of the most shared and/or mentioned songs on Twitter in the U.S., ranked by the volume of shares over a seven-day period (Monday to Sunday).
“Know” also arrives on the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 56, aided by 28,000 downloads sold and 1.5 million U.S. streams earned in the week ending Oct. 13, according to Nielsen Music. (Notably, the song’s Oct. 12 release allowed for only two days of sales and streaming activity in the latest Hot 100 tracking week, which closed Oct. 13.)
The new single prompts a 264 percent increase in the group’s Twitter mentions in the week ending Oct. 16, jumping to 18,000, according to Next Big Sound. The social gains and “Know” debut combine to help Maroon 5 ascend 68-34 on the Billboard Artist 100.
Elsewhere on Billboard + Twitter Top Tracks, The Weeknd roars 48-3 with “False Alarm,” on the heels of its music video premiere Oct. 13. The clip, featuring a bloody bank robbery and car chase in the style of a first-person video game, has clocked more than 18 million global views on YouTube through Oct. 20. The music video’s release helps The Weeknd gather 52,000 Twitter mentions for the week, a gain of 32 percent.
The Weeknd collects another track in the top three, as “Starboy,” featuring Daft Punk, holds for a second week at No. 2. Both “Starboy” and “Alarm” will be included on The Weeknd’s forthcoming studio album, Starboy, due Nov. 25.
Elsewhere on Top Tracks, South Korean K-pop boy band BTS rockets to a No. 7 debut with “Blood Sweat & Tears,” as the song’s parent album Wings debuts at No. 26 on the Billboard 200 and sets new sales and chart peak records for a K-pop release in the process.
“Tears” clocked 1.2 million U.S. streams in the tracking week and is BTS’ eighth top 10 hit on the Top Tracks chart, lifting BTS past Fifth Harmony for the third-most top 10s by a group, trailing only One Direction (24) and 5 Seconds of Summer (15).
Speaking of Fifth Harmony, the group’s Camila Cabello debuts at No. 31 with “Bad Things,” alongside Machine Gun Kelly. The single is Cabello’s first Top Tracks entry outside of Fifth Harmony. (Her first solo release, a featured turn on Shawn Mendes’ “I Know What You Did Last Summer” — a top 20 hit on the Hot 100 — did not reach Top Tracks.)
The new release boosts Cabello’s social activity, sparking 490,000 Twitter mentions for the week, up 112 percent.
