Driver, helper loot NRI’s flat, take cash, goods worth Rs 65L
Ghaziabad: The house of an NRI was burgled in an upscale Indirapuram residential society late on Wednesday night.
According to the victim, the theft was allegedly committed by his domestic help and driver who made off with a huge amount of cash, jewellery and their British passports.
The NRI, Jai Prakash Gupta (71), and his family members had gone to a relative’s place in Pitampura for Karva Chauth when the incident took place.

The family members claimed that the driver, Puran Singh and domestic help, Monu Saxena made off with 5,500 (worth Rs 4.49 lakh at the current exchange rate), Rs 4.75 lakh in cash, 300gm of jewellery, iPads, laptops and their car.
According to Gupta, the total loss is estimated at about Rs 65 lakh. “The worst part is they have stolen our passports and Overseas Citizen of India cards,” added Gupta.
“I got a call from my neighbour saying that the door of my flat was ajar and the house ransacked. I immediately hired a cab and rushed back home to find the cash, documents and baggages missing. On checking the CCTV footage, we found Puran and Monu entering the flat at 10.59pm and leaving with the baggage 15 minutes later on our Tata Manza car,” Gupta said.
The family further said driver Puran Singh had been working at their place for the past one year.
The police meanwhile has registered an FIR against the two accused. “We have the details and we know that Puran and Monu hails from Chaundasi district,” said SSP, Deepak Kumar. “The culprits have been identified with the help of CCTV footage and we hope to crack the case soon,” added Kumar.
