Sena faction leader does U-turn on firing

KALANAUR: Shiv Sena (Hindustan) leader Surjit Singh Billa (43) today told the police that he was fired at, only to retract his statement later.

Shiv Sena (Hindustan) leader Surjit Singh Billa (43) today told the police that he was fired at, only to retract his statement later.

Billa had alleged that a nihang, Harbant Singh, one of his distant relatives, fired at him from a rifle after he had gone to Chandu Wadala village in the morning to resolve a matrimonial dispute involving his daughter.

SSP Jasdeep Singh said, “When SHO Ashok Kumar questioned him at Kalanaur police station, Billa refused to cooperate. He initially gave three versions of the incident. Later, he admitted that the nihang had not fired at him.”

The SSP said action would be taken against Surjit Singh Billa.
