A day after he put out a tweet identifying the religion and caste of a Muzaffarpur murder accused and his victim, Bihar’s former Deputy CM Sushil Kumar Modi stuck to his choice of words, saying that he said so to “expose” CM Nitish Kumar’s politics of “Muslim appeasement”.

“I am not apologetic about my choice of words and clearly identify caste and religion of victim and accused. I have done so to expose the appeasement politics of Nitish Kumar,” said the BJP legislature party leader, who stayed defiant despite JD (U) leaders calling his tweet “blatant and provocative”.

After meeting the family of the Dalit girl, who was murdered on October 11, in Muzaffarpur Wednesday, Sushil Modi had tweeted: “Muzaffarpur ke Turki mein ek alpsankhyak ladke dwara ek Dalit ladki ki hatya kar di gayi thi… (A Dalit girl was killed by a boy from the minority community in Muzaffarpur’s Turki)”.

“It has been 10 days since the incident but police have done little to arrest the accused. When it comes to taking action against Muslims, police shy away,” Sushil Modi told The Indian Express.

Festive offer

JD(U) spokesperson Neeraj Kumar said: “A crime is a crime and it is blatant on the part of such a senior leader like Sushil Modi to emphasise the caste and religion of a victim and an accused.”
