Google has added a new tag called ‘Fact check’ for its new stories. This will help readers find fact checking in large news stories, said Richard Gingras, Head of News at Google in a blogpost. Users will now see the articles tagged with ‘Fact Check’ in the expanded story box on news.google.com and in the Google News & Weather iOS and Android apps. The new tag has been rolled out in the US and UK for now, with the company looking to expand the same for other countries soon. “Google News determines whether an article might contain fact checks in part by looking for the schema.org ClaimReview markup,” Gingras said.

He added that Google also looks for sites that follow the commonly accepted criteria for fact checks. “Publishers who create fact-checks and would like to see it appear with the “Fact check” tag should use that markup in fact-check articles,” Gingras added. Looks like Google rolled out the new ‘Fact check’ tag, keeping in mind next month’s US Presidential elections.

Google recently rolled out Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP) for mobile search results in India. Google says AMP pages will show pages that are ready to load quickly without affecting search rankings for pages and websites. Google’s AMP project was announced last year, and there are over 600 million AMP documents that have been created in over 104 languages across the world.

In India, publishers like Zomato, NDTV, as well Indian Express Group are all using AMP. India is the second biggest market for Google and it is no surprise the search giant is trying to create products tailored for the country’s slow networks. However, it is unclear at this moment when ‘Fact check’ tag will be rolled out for India.
