The season proved very different to previous years; it was a challenging vintage with a lot of rain in January, followed by a cool February and March. The upside of this cool weather meant amazing slow phenolic ripeness and low sugar accumulation resulting in the lowest potential alcohol levels I have ever had.  The grapes were handpicked 1st to 4th April and open fermented, de-stemmed but uncrushed. The grapes underwent a 3 day maceration before spontaneous fermentation began (remaining on skins for a further 23 days). After 17 months in French oak the wine was racked and bottled.

Comprised of clones SH9c, SH22 and SH99, my 2014 Kershaw Elgin Syrah is light in body, extremely delicate and shows phenomenal elegance and fine porcelain tannins - very much an ethereal wine with waif-like poise.
