NTT Docomo's new smartphone to cost only about 650 yen

NTT Docomo's low-cost smartphone "MONO".

NTT Docomo, Inc. announced on Oct. 19 that it will be entering the market for low-cost smartphones with the "MONO," which costs only around 650 yen (tax included).

The "MONO," produced by China's ZTE Corp., will go on sale from early December. While the phone includes features such a 13-megapixel camera and waterproofing, the price of the device was lowered by omitting digital management services offered by NTT Docomo, such as a mobile wallet and TV reception.

The contract for the use of the phone is for 12 months, and should the contract be cancelled during that time, the customer will incur a cancellation fee between 15,000 to 16,000 yen.
