NBI Deputy Director Leuterio dies after suffering heart attack

A ranking official of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) suffered a heart attack early Thursday.

NBI spokesperson  Ferdinand Lavin said the Deputy Director for Regional Operations Service (DDROS), Atty. Leopoldo D. Leuterio, passed away after suffering a heart attack.

“Director Leuterio’s untimely death is a big loss to the bureau because of his full grasp of the mandates of the bureau and its accomplishments,” Lavin said.

He added that Leuterio was a veteran of the NBI, having been a graduate of the NBI Academy in 2000.

Leuterio was appointed by President Rodrigo Roa Duterte to the NBI on August 4, 2016 as Deputy Director for Regional Operations Service and took his oath the following day before Department of Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II.

He finished his bachelor of laws at the Ateneo De Davao in 1995 and passed the bar in the same year. In 2000, he joined the NBI as part of Batch 37th NBI Agents and 10th Special Investigators Basic Training Course graduating as valedictorian of his batch and recipient of Leadership Award. In 2003, he was awarded the Best Agent honor under the Intelligence Service and the incumbent president of his batch at the time of his death.

In 2004, he left the bureau and joined the private sector as a practicing lawyer.

Leuterio is survived by his wife and two children. JE/rga
