GORAKHPUR: Days after Santosh Paswan died in Gorakhpur, Narmada Paswan, the other youth who was set afire along with him in Dumari Khar village, also succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday. Narmada was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Lucknow. The prime accused in the case, Ajit Yadav, is still absconding.
Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) state coordinator, Ghanshyam Chandra Kharwar, met the aggrieved families and assured them of all possible help.
Members of the Ambedkarwadi Chatra Sabha asked him to raise the issue in Parliament.
BSP state head too was scheduled to meet the families. Narmada and Santosh were allegedly set on fire on the night of October 10 over poll-related rivalry in Dumari Khar village under Chauri Chaura police station in Gorakhpur. Santosh had died on October 12.
"Narmada died on Wednesday. He is survived by three children. The state government should help the family financially," said Pradeep Kumar Paswan, Narmada's brother-in-law.
A case was registered against Om Maurya, the son of village chief Munni Devi, Ajit Yadav and four unidentified persons on the application of the family members of the youths.
Though Om Maurya has been arrested, Ajit Yadav is still on the run. "We have got a few leads and hopefully Ajit Yadav will be arrested soon," said Chauri Chaura SO Sadanand Singh.
Two days ago families of Santosh and Narmada had demanded police security and submitted a memorandum to the Governor. They alleged that they had been receiving threats from Ajit Yadav on phone.
