GANDHINAGAR: Former
Gujarat Congress president Arjun Modhwadia - citing the report of the Justice S S Jha commission, which was appointed by the Madhya Pradesh government, which stated that 90% of the oustees of the Sardar Sarovar Narmada dam were victims of forgery - said PM
Narendra Modi and the Gujarat
BJP government were compromising the interests of the people of Gujarat to save Shivraj Singh Chouhan's BJP government in MP from the fallout of the resettlement and rehabilitation (R and R) scam there.
Modhwadia said, "The Gujarat government is keeping the people of Gujarat in the dark while the MP government has itself said that they will have to rehabilitate 15,000 families before allowing Gujarat to close the gates of the Sardar Sarovar Dam, which is expected to complete by the year end. It may take several more years but the Gujarat government not paying attention to it. If, as per the Jha commission report, oustees who have not been paid due to fraud need to be compensated, it will waste even more time."
The
Congress leader said: "We demand that Prime Minister Narendra
Modi again sit on a 51-hour fast as he did earlier for political gain and force the MP government to complete the R and R, to allow the closing of the dam gates so the people of Gujarat can get more water. To save MP CM Shivraj Singh in the Narmada R and R scam, the Modi government is doing injustice to Gujarat." Modhwadia also demanded that PM Modi make the MP CM resign. tnn
