BELAGAVI: Shashidhar Kurer will continue as the Belagavi City Corporation (BCC) commissioner. Within 24 hours of his transfer order, the government issued a corrigendum on Wednesday.
It was a shocker to many when Kurer, known for his strict action against traders operating without licence, was transferred on Tuesday. His sudden transfer trended on social media with people fearing that the frequent transfer of officers will derail the launch of Smart City project.

In Tuesday's order, A Dinesh Sampatraj, under-secretary to the government, had announced that M P Mullai Muhilan, an IAS officer of the 2013 batch who is currently serving as the assistant commissioner of Jamakhandi as a probationary officer, has been promoted as the BCC commissioner and also CEO of the special purpose vehicle (SPV) of Belagavi for the Smart City project.
The corrigendum released on Tuesday stated that Kurer will continue as the BCC commissioner while Muhilan will work as the CEO of SPV.
Speaking to TOI, Kurer said the charge of SPV was given to him as there was no designated officer for it. "In yesterday's notification, IAS officer M P Mullai Muhilan was appointed as CEO of SPV of Belagavi Smart City project. But it mistakenly appointed him as the BCC commissioner too. Thus in the corrigendum issued today, the government has clarified that he has been appointed only for the SPV and I will continue as the commissioner of BCC," he said.
Kurer was the commissioner of Belagavi Urban Development Authority before being appointed as the BCC chief in late-September.
