Caledonia Appoints David Scully as Vice Chairman

NEW YORK & SYDNEY--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Caledonia (Private) Investments Pty Limited , an independent, global long/short equity investment manager, today announced that it has bolstered its senior executive team. David Scully, former Partner and Chief Marketing Officer of Coatue Management, has joined the Firm as Vice Chairman, USA. In this new role, he will be based in New York and will serve as an advisor on business strategy, as well as oversee the creation of a business development and client service team to serve the Firm’s diversified base of global institutional investors.

Caledonia also announced that Michael Messara, Senior Portfolio Manager, will become Co-Chief Investment Officer with Will Vicars, who has led the investment team for the past five years and spearheaded the firm’s long/short strategy since its inception. Additionally, Augie Sciulla, former Head of Business Development and Investor Relations for Ardmore Global Investors, will join the Firm as Head of Marketing, USA.

Scully was previously a Partner and Chief Marketing Officer at Coatue Management LLC, a global investment management firm with approximately $10 billion in assets and offices in New York, Menlo Park and Beijing. Scully joined Coatue as Chief Operating Officer in 2005 after serving in a similar capacity at Passport Capital LLC and Cannell Capital LLC, two long/short equity hedge funds based in San Francisco. Scully held various positions in institutional equities at Sanford C. Bernstein & Co., Salomon Brothers Inc., and JP Morgan from 1989 to 2002. He started his career in sales at IBM Corp. in 1983. Scully is also Chairman of the Board of Trustees at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. He graduated from Trinity College in 1983 with a B.S. in Biology.

Messara, who has relocated to New York, sits on the Board of Directors of Caledonia (Private) Investments Pty Limited and was previously Senior Portfolio Manager at the firm. Messara joined Caledonia in 2006 after spending five years with UBS AG in Sydney. While at UBS, Messara held a number of roles in equity research with a particular emphasis on the materials, healthcare, media, gaming and small caps sectors. His most recent role before joining Caledonia was Director, Emerging Companies, heading a team of analysts covering Australian listed companies outside the S&P/ASX 100. Messara attended Bond University on a Business School Scholarship and completed a Bachelor of Commerce in 2001, majoring in Finance, Accounting and Economics. Messara is a Non-Executive Director of Arrowfield Group Pty Ltd.

Sciulla, prior to Ardmore, was Managing Director – Business Development and Investor Relations for two years at JAT Capital Management, an alternative asset manager. Before joining the asset management industry, Sciulla had a successful career in the medical device industry. His most recent position was Director of Area Sales (Northeast) for Intuitive Surgical Inc. from 2010 to 2014 and before that he was a Director of Sales for Mindray Medical, LLC from 2006 to 2010. Previously, Augie accepted a congressional appointment to attend the United States Naval Academy and graduated in the top quartile of his class with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering with Merit in 1997. After graduation, he was commissioned as a Naval Officer, graduated Naval Flight School and served in combat operations as a P-3C Orion Plane Commander, Mission Commander and Instructor Pilot until his honorable discharge from the U.S. Navy in 2006.
