TEHRAN (MNA) – Iranian cyclist Rahim Emami stood on top of the podium at first round of Jelajah Malaysia professional road bicycle racing stage race.
The opening round of Jelajah Malaysia, the oldest bicycle race in Malaysia which is ranked 2.2 classes by UCI (Union Cycliste Internationale), was held over a 205-kilometer distance in the Southeast Asian country of Malaysia where Iran’s Emami of Pishgaman Kavir Yazd won the gold medal.
Cyclists from the Philippines and Spain finished second and third at the event which is one of the most prestigious bicycle race amongst Asian and International teams.
Emami took the better of rivals in individual section in addition to earning the highest number of points and received both gold and blue jerseys for being for being general and point’s leader.
In the team section, however, Iran’s professional cycling club Pishgaman Kavir Yazd stood in the second place on the first day of the tournament.
Pishgaman squad in the international tour comprises Arvin Moazemi, Rahim Emami, Hamid Beik Khurnizi, Hamid Hashemi, Amir Kolahduz as well as Reza Hosseini.
Petrochimi Tabriz sports clubs is yet another cycling squad representing Iran at Jelajah Malaysia event.
Existing of only a men's competition over five stages and an overall distance of 850 kilometers, the Jelajah Malaysia is an annual professional road bicycle racing stage race held in Malaysia since 1963.
The race is part of the UCI Asia Tour and was classified by the International Cycling Union (UCI) as a 2.2 category races.
