These days Gurugram civic body commissioner TL Satya Prakash is writing letters to himself. He's both the MCG commissioner as well as the district commissioner. And he is flagging himself about the fire safety of the district commissioner's office, asking it to apply with the fire department to obtain an NOC.

But it's not just one example of fire safety becoming an issue in a government building. In Gurugram, at least 16 government or semi-government buildings have not obtained the No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the fire department. These buildings include the six-storey secretariat of the district and two civil hospitals in Gurugram. The district secretariat accommodates at least 25 departments, including the DM court, RTA office, FRRO branch, DCP west, education and police control room that cater to thousands of people every day.

On the other hand, the two civil hospitals have 300 beds, with over 2,000 people visiting these precincts.

Other establishments in the fire 'red list' include office of the city police commissioner, new court complex, Huda office at sector 14, CRPF camp at Kadarpur, divisional commissioner's office, district prison at Bhondsi, PWD guest house at Civil Lines, DHBVN office on MG Road, Gurugram railway station, city's main bus stand, old panchayat building, social welfare office, three government colleges, government schools and the MDI University.

The city's fire department works under the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram which has written several letters to these offices on fire safety certificate, but did not receive any response from the heads of these departments.
