Neelam Naik is new Chicalim sarpanch

VASCO: Neelam Naik was elected unopposed as Chicalim sarpanch on Tuesday in an election held at the new panchayat office.
BDO engineer Nicolas Cardozo was the presiding officer. As no more nominations were brought into the fray, Naik was declared as new sarpanch of Chicalim. Naik is a member of Dabolim MLA Mauvin Godinho’s panel. Godinho also visited the panchayat to congratulate Naik.
Naik said that her main focus would be on collecting revenue for the panchayat. “Though Dabolim international airport comes in our jurisdiction, there is no revenue coming from it. A detailed study will be undertaken to study the matter in order to get some income for the panchayat,” she said.
“It has also come to our notice that the houses on rent coming under the panchayat area should pay one out of 12 months rent to the panchayat which is not followed by many house owners. It is also because such houses are not thoroughly identified,” she added. Naik assured that she will take up full-fledged work of panchayat development under her tenure as sarpanch.
Godinho, while addressing reporters, commented on the chargesheet filed by Congress, saying, “All these scams that are being talked about are all done by the Congress leaders themselves. They talk about casinos and BJP taking revenue from it, but it was initially established by Congress. Even mining is a baby of the same party”.
