One arrested for Navelim burglary

MARGAO: Margao town police, late Tuesday night, arrested Jerry Fernandes, a resident of Navelim, in connection with the burglary that occurred in the village on the same morning.
Police sources said that the stolen cash and goods are, however, yet to be recovered.
Police believe that Fernandes had two other accomplices, and are on the lookout for them.
The culprits had broken into a house at Dongrim, Navelim on Tuesday morning, and made off with cash and gold ornaments worth lakhs of rupees.The incident occurred when the occupants of the house were away.
The accused, police sources said, gained entry through the back door.
In her complaint to the police Shaila Parsekar stated that she had locked and left her house at 8am, but found it burgled after she returned at around 2.30pm.
Police sources said two cupboards were found ransacked and cash amounting to 1.40 lakh, besides gold ornaments, stolen. Further investigations are under way.
