Woman trampled to death by jumbo

A 60-year-old woman was trampled to death by an elephant near Andhiyur in Erode district on Tuesday night.V Karuna, 60, of Pudukkadu Vilankadu near Andhiyur, had ventured into the Andhiyur forest to collect wooden logs.

Erode: A 60-year-old woman was trampled to death by an elephant near Andhiyur in Erode district on Tuesday night. V Karuna, 60, of Pudukkadu Vilankadu near Andhiyur, had ventured into the Andhiyur forest to collect wooden logs.
As she failed to return home, her family along with villagers launched a search for her and found Karuna's body. "We found her body with grave injuries," said K Ayyasamy, a villager.
Forest officials recovered the body and sent it to Andhiyur government hospital for postmortem.
They also issued a warning to villagers about elephants roaming near human habitation in the area.
"The postmortem report confirmed that the injuries found on the body were caused by an elephant attack," said a forest official.
A solatium of 25, 000 of issued to the family as immediate relief. A case was registered by forest officials and further investigations are underway.
