Erode: A 60-year-old woman was trampled to death by an elephant near
Andhiyur in
Erode district on Tuesday night. V
Karuna, 60, of
Pudukkadu Vilankadu near Andhiyur, had ventured into the Andhiyur
forest to collect wooden logs.
As she failed to return home, her family along with villagers launched a search for her and found Karuna's body. "We found her body with grave injuries," said K Ayyasamy, a villager.
Forest officials recovered the body and sent it to Andhiyur government hospital for postmortem.
They also issued a warning to villagers about elephants roaming near human habitation in the area.
"The postmortem report confirmed that the injuries found on the body were caused by an elephant attack," said a forest official.
A solatium of 25, 000 of issued to the family as immediate relief. A case was registered by forest officials and further investigations are underway.
