The divorce negotiations between Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have hit an impasse, with custody being a main sticking point, People magazine reported Wednesday.

“Things are still strange and strained between them … They are still working on issues that they can’t agree on. It seems their issues still involve the kids,” an unnamed source told People.

People magazine separately reported on Wednesday that Mr. Pitt has visited his children twice since Ms. Jolie separated from him, but that eldest son Maddox was not present at either occasions.

Maddox is reportedly the child with whom Mr. Pitt got in a heated argument aboard his private jet on Sept. 14. Child protective services are investigating the incident to determine if there is evidence of child abuse.

For his part, Maddox, adopted by Mr. Pitt and Ms. Jolie in 2006, “doesn’t really see himself as Brad’s son,” an unnamed source told Us Weekly. “Maddox never wants to see Brad again,” said another source close to Ms. Jolie, the entertainment-news magazine reported Wednesday.
