The presiding deity of the Sri Meenakshi Sundareswarar temple, Goddess Meenakshi, will be adorned with her diamond crown on the day of the Diwali this year. The precious crown is taken out only on important occasions, like the day of coronation during the Chittirai festival. The crown is also known as the Rayar crown as it is said to have been donated by Appaji Rayar, who was a minister in the
Krishna Devarayar dynasty.
Lord Sundareswarar will be adorned with the diamond 'netripattai', a press release said.

Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa. The man was identified as A Sagayam, 28, son of
Anthony Savarimuthu, a native of
Sayalkudi in Ramanathapuram.
Engineering student commits suicide:
An engineering student identified as Firthosh Jaffer, 20, son of Abdul Hafeez from Goriplayam, committed suicide by hanging at home. Police said the student was in second year of engineering at a private college in Virudhunagar district. Recently, he had fallen ill and was being treated.
