Director Nanda Kishore's upcoming release,
Mukunda Murari, is the Kannada remake of the hit Hindi film, OMG Oh My God! The original, which had Akshay Kumar and Paresh Rawal in the lead, featured a commercial track with Prabhudheva and Sonakshi Sinha, while the Telugu version had a peppy song with Pawan Kalyan and Venkatesh. For his adaptation, though, Nanda felt that it would not be right to have protagonist
Upendra do a jig.
'As the story unfolds, Upendra's character is seen facing a lot of issues and it would be inappropriate to have him dance for a song. Considering that
Sudeep plays
Krishna, we wanted to utilize him, but could not have him dance either. Our next best bet was to have
Rukmini and
Radha (played by
Bhavana and
Rachita Ram) serenading him in Bhooloka,' explains the filmmaker.
The inspiration behind the song, Gopala Baa ' sung by Vijay Prakash, Chaitanya and Palak Muchhal ' adds Nanda, were the Bollywood numbers Dola Re (Devdas) and Pinga (Bajirao Mastani), both of which had jugalbandhi dances by the leading ladies.
