KOCHI: The good news emanating from the JNI stadium on Wednesday was not limited to Kochi being chosen as a U-17 World Cup venue. Moments after the all-important declaration, Joy Bhattacharjya, the local organizing committee project director, informed that the mascot launch of the event will be held in the city.
"We are hoping to do another big event in Kochi soon which is the mascot launch.
The mascot will be a really exciting one and it will be in the demographic that we are looking at for this World Cup and it is not about India's footballing past but about India's footballing future, which are India's children," Bhattacharjya said at the media interaction.
Later talking to TOI, Bhattacharjya said that the local organizing committee is planning to have the mascot launch on November 14. "November 14 is children's day and no better day than children's day to unveil out mascot," he said.
After FIFA chief Gianni Infantino unveiled the logo of the tournament in Goa last month on the sidelines of AFC extraordinary congress, the organisers are keen to have a colorful ceremony for the mascot launch. Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan will also be attending the ceremony and some top dignitaries of Fifa are also expected to be present for the event.
