TRICHY: Thanks to footage of three suspects captured by CCTV cameras at the Trichy Railway Junction and the tip-off from the public, police have moved one step closer to solving the case of the 18-month-old female toddler who had gone missing from the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital (MGMGH) here. With this new evidence, police are confident that they would nab the accused at the earliest.
Deputy commissioner of police, law and order, A Mylvaganan released the pictures of a 45-year-old man, a 35-year-old woman and a small boy, recorded at the Trichy Railway Junction twice on October 6, when C Sadhana went missing from the MGMGH.

Based on a tip off from the public, police now have a lead on the case. Despite having access to the CCTV footage, police had remained clueless about the whereabouts of the suspects until now.
“We received a tip-off from someone who had chanced upon the three during his journey from Tiruvarur to Trichy on October 06. Based on the information, we searched the CCTV recordings at the Trichy junction and found what we were looking for. The footage clearly shows that the trio had come to Trichy and left the city with a baby, through Trichy Railway Junction, on the same day,” Mylvaganan said.
The suspects in the footage took C Sadhana from the ground floor of the comprehensive emergency and obstetric newborn care centre at the MGMGH on October 6. Her mother, C Saranya, 23, who is four months pregnant and resides in Kamaraj Nagar, had taken Sadhana along for her regular check-up. The trio voluntarily offered to take care of Sadhana until she returned from her check-up, but they left with the baby.
Suspecting that the trio may have returned to
Thanjavur, Tiruvarur or Nagappattinam by train around 8pm from Trichy Railway Junction, the police dispatched three teams to each of the districts with pictures. Police have not ruled out a child-trafficking case.
It’s the third child missing case from the same hospital since 2010. Two female infants were stolen from the MGMGH in 2010 and 2013. The police are yet to crack both these cases.
In the latest case, the CCTV footage and public cooperation give some hope that the case would be cracked.
